Jannik Sinner is currently the best player in the world – Novak Djokovic

    April 10, 2024

World No.1 Novak Djokovic has tipped Jannik Sinner as currently the best player in the world. Sinner has been in sensational form, winning the Australian Open (his first Grand Slam title), the ATP Rotterdam Open, and the Miami Open in the ongoing season.

Sinner also made it to the semifinals of the Indian Wells but lost to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz. The Italian also bested Novak Djokovic in the semifinals of the Australian Open in a four-set contest. Sinner has lost only three matches since the 2023 US Open.

Novak Djokovic told press in Monaco, “Jannik is currently the best player in the world. He only lost one match. He has improved in all areas of his game. He moves better, he is very present mentally.”

The Serbian continued, “In important matches, we have seen the difference in Jannik over the past six months. He wins the big matches. He learned from his mistakes and he is very present in important moments.”

“We all knew that he could hit hard, forehand and backhand, that he loved to be aggressive in dictating the points. He still does that but with fewer errors, more margin. This is a very big development from a technical and tactical point of view. He plays incredible tennis.”

Meanwhile, Djokovic was stunned by Luca Nardi in the Indian Wells whereas he went on to skip the Miami Open.

Both Sinner and Djokovic will be seen in action in the ongoing Monte Carlos Masters. While Djokovic will play Russia’s Roman Safiullin in the opening round on Tuesday, Sinner will be in action on Wednesday.

Both Sinner and Djokovic could be seen facing each other if they reach the final of the tournament.
