Greek Tennis player Stefanos Tsitspas believes not many players are capable of doing what Rafael Nadal has done over the years. Nadal has had a glorious career and he has always defied odds to come up with the goods.
The veteran Spaniard won his 14th Roland-Garros title after beating Casper Ruud in the final. In fact, not many had put their weight on the lefty because of injury woes but he was once again able to prove his mettle.
Meanwhile, Nadal has also confirmed his participation at Wimbledon and he will be looking to clinch the 23rd Major of his glorious career. It is well known that Nadal has faced a lot of adversity due to chronic foot injury but he has found a way to play with it and also succeed.
“I don’t think there are many players who are capable of doing everything that Rafa has shown us over the years,” Tsitsipas said while talking to Ultima Hora. “He has proven to be disciplined, hard-working, and consistent. He has always continued to train to improve and learn. He does not make excuses when things do not go well.”
Tsitsipas hailed Nadal for coming up with the goods despite facing trouble with his injury. However, the Spaniard has always had a fighting spirit and it has played a key role in his success over the years.
“And despite everything that has happened to his foot, even in his worst moments, he always knows how to get up, and is an example for everyone,” Tsitsipas said. “Nadal does things that seem impossible. And I talk about things like winning this Roland Garros, and doing it up to 14 times; or conquer 22 Grand Slams. It dominates all terrains.”
Tsitsipas added that Nadal is an icon for Tennis as he has achieved everything in the game.
“Rafa Nadal is more than an athlete or a tennis player,” Tsitsipas said. “He is an icon of the sport.”
Nadal will be seen in action in the upcoming Wimbledon, which will begin on June 27. The Spaniard will also play in Hurlingham Classic.
