Novak Djokovic confirms split with coach Goran Ivanisevic

    March 28, 2024

Novak Djokovic has confirmed that he is parting ways with his coach Goran Ivanisevic. The Serbian took to social media to reveal the news on Wednesday.

Goran Ivanisevic joined Djokovic’s team back in 2018. Back then, the veteran had a total of 12 Grand Slams. Under Ivanisevic’s tutelage, Djokovic won another dozen Majors and he is still going strongly at the top level.

“I remember clearly the moment I invited Goran to be part of my team. It was back in 2018, and Marian and I were looking to innovate and bring some serve magic to our duo,” Djokovic wrote on Instagram. “In fact, not only we brought serve, but also lots of laughter, fun, year end no1 rankings, record breaking achievements and 12 more Grand Slams (and a few finals) to the count since then. Did I mention a bit of drama too? ???#Nolefam would know ?”

From 2018 to 2022, Ivanisevic worked with Marian Vajda. In March 2022, Djokovic announced that Vajda would be leaving his coaching team, making Ivanisevic, now a member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame, his chief coach.

Djokovic revealed that the decision to split with his coach was taken a few days ago.

“Our on court chemistry had its ups and downs, but our friendship was always rock solid,” Djokovic wrote. “In fact, I am proud to say (not sure he is ?) that apart from winning tournaments together, we also had a side battle in Parchisi going on… for many years. And – that tournament never stops for us.

“Šefinjo, thanks for everything my friend. Love you.?”

Meanwhile, Djokovic lost in the semifinal of the Australian Open 2024 against eventual champion Jannik Sinner. He was stunned by Luca Nardi in the second round of the Indian Wells and then decided to opt out of the ongoing Miami Open.
