Rafael Nadal give positive updates about his return, lauds Garbine Muguruza on her WTA finals win

    November 22, 2021

Rafael Nadal is on his road to recovery as he provided an update on his health during the celebration of the 10th anniversary of his foundation. The 35-year-old Spaniard highlighted his goals of getting back on the court in his best possible shape. The Spaniard has been out of action since August this year after feeling discomfort in his foot during the Roland Garros.

While he underwent treatment, the good news was that the Spaniard did not need surgery as it is deemed to be a chronic foot injury. The Spanish tennis legend is back in training and is aiming to return to the action at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship exhibition event in Abu Dhabi later this year.

Nadal spoke to the media sharing that he wants to be competitive while returning to action. However he also agreed that his road to recovery was very tough. “My goal right now is to prepare myself in the best possible way in every way for when I am ready to arrive and be able to be competitive,” Rafael Nadal said.

“I know it’s going to be a complicated process because it’s many months but I’m with the utmost enthusiasm and that’s what should lead me to have options next year,” Nadal added.

The Spanish tennis icon then turned his attention towards compatriot Garbine Muguruza. She became the first Spanish player to win the WTA Finals and Nadal was ecstatic at her achievement.

“I’m happy for Garbiñe. What she has achieved is a milestone in our sport and a joy for Spanish tennis. I congratulate her,” Rafael Nadal said.

It has been a good year for Spain in the tennis circuit as apart from Muguruza’s WTA Finals win, players like Paula Badosa Sara Sorribes Tormo have also made their mark in the tennis circuit this season. Badosa was fantastic this year as she broke into the top 10 of the WTA rankings. Whereas Sorribes Tormo won her maiden title this year at the Abierto Zapopan.

Overall Nadal was delighted with the female Spanish players as they have had a great year. He highlights how Muguruza’s WTA Finals win is special as she is the first Spaniard to achieve something like this.

“It has been a good year for (Spanish) women’s tennis and with a good culmination winning the last tournament, which had not been achieved and has a special meaning,” Rafael Nadal concluded.
