Jannik Sinner reacted to the comment made by Alexander Zverev after he beat him in the knockout stage of the French Open.
Zverev lost to the 19-year-old in the fourth round, having gone into the tournament in fine form after just reaching his first Grand Slam final in New York.
The German tennis sensation had claimed that he was unwell. This fuelled fears he had contracted Covid which stopped his parents from watching him in the US Open final against Dominic Thiem. However, Sinner seemed to take an offence in the comment as he saw it very differently.
Speaking with Corriere, Sinner showed respect to his counterpart because he has won more games than him and has more experience on the circuit. While describing the 23-year-old German as a great player, Sinner, however, didn’t respect his statements.
The 19-year-old Italian tennis player also added that Zverev contradicted himself a lot after the Roland Garros exit.
According to Sinner, Zveres had claimed to have had a fever but ran more than him in the third and fourth sets of the tournament. This to Sinner is an unnecessary excuse adding that top players like Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal would never have said such.
Sinner was eventually stopped from proceeding into the semi-finals of Roland Garros by the eventual winner, Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals.
In another development, Madrid Masters director, Feliciano Lopez is hoping to see Rafael Nadal, plays in the tournament.
He is therefore hoping that it attracts all of the Big Three Nadal, Roger Feder and Novack Djokovic again as seen in2019. Nadal is the one he wants the most because he is a Spaniard. Playing a home tournament as world number one player will give the tournament a huge boost.
But Nadal, Djokovic and Federer choose their schedules carefully. It could be recalled that Federer has missed almost all of 2020 with injury, which he already had surgery on.
