Stefanos Tsitsipas is going to win many Grand slams in future – Novak Djokovic

    June 14, 2021

The World no.1 Novak Djokovic continued his domination in the Tennis world as he clinched his 19th major title by defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas by 6-7)6-8), 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4. In the French Open final. Tsitsipas was able to put his nose in front as he won the opening two sets and showed his class as he gave a run for the money to the Serbian.

However, Djokovic was able to make the most of his experience and bounced back in style as he won the last three sets. The World No.1 had his backs against the wall after losing the first two sets but he kept his composure to get back into the contest.

Thus, Djokovic became the first player in the Open Era to win all the four slams at least twice. He joins the likes of Roy Emerson and Rod Laver who have achieved the same feat before the Open Era.

Meanwhile, Djokovic heaped praise on Tsitsipas after winning his second Roland Garros title. Djokovic sees a lot of potential in the 22-year youngster from Greece and he feels that Tsitsipas will go on to win many Grand slam titles in the future.

‘These are the kinds of occasions that you learn from the most, & knowing him & his team he’s going to come out much stronger from this match today,” said Djokovic in the interview.

“I definitely believe he’s going to win many Grand Slams in the future. So respect to you, & your team,” added the Serbian legend.

In fact, Tsitsipas also expressed confidence that he will be able to clinch his maiden Grand slam title soon if he continues to come up with consistent performances. Furthermore, the Greek added that he would be happy if he goes on to achieve half of what Djokovic has achieved in his glorious career.

The match lasted for four hours and 11 minutes and both the players showed their class. In the end, it was Djokovic who clinched the coveted trophy.
