    Team Europe Wins Laver Cup

    September 24, 2019

In the tough competition that saw Europe against the world, the host continent emerged victorious with a 13-11 scoreline. The win has become something like second nature for Europe as they have not been beaten for the third year in a row, which is since the start of the competition in 2017.

The total scoreline shows just how tough Team World, comprised of countries like the US and Canada, played the best they could, as they even were tied at a point, but they could not just conquer the defending champions.

The last match saw Alexandra Zverev dominate and win over Milos Raonic. The game was quite competitive, as they both took advantage of each other’s error, doing each other in, just to get the upper hand. The game ended 6-4 3-6 10 – 4.

That was all just Europe needed to be champions for a third consecutive time. This was the second time the German would lead his team to victory.

The competition which took place in Geneva, Switzerland hosted big names in the game like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, John Isner and a host of others.

Federer was quite instrumental in securing Europe’s lead. In fact, it was he and Nadal that sounded encouragement to Zverev’s ear, as, according to him, “It was an unbelievable weekend. Those guys were screaming at me in the locker room before the Match Tie-break, saying this is how I could turn my season around. Without all of these guys on the bench, I couldn’t have done it.”

As for Federer, he enjoyed every bit of the game, besides winning, stating ”I’m very excited. What an atmosphere and what a match. I’m thrilled that I was able to give something back to the team after a tough Match Tie-break (in doubles) earlier today”. Each of the players on the winning team would go home with $250,000 prize money.

The next year’s edition of the game would take place in Boston, USA – a city where a professional tennis match has not been held since 1999.
