Veteran Tennis player Rafael Nadal feels a lot of people get confused with the definition of talent. Nadal, who has built his career on hard work, believes the one who wins consistently is the most talented. Nadal has always been a hard worker since his teen days and he has savored great success in his glorious career because of the way he has trained.
The Spaniard has been in fine form in the recent past as he won the Australian Open earlier in the year. Subsequently, he went on to win his 14th title at Roland-Garros. Nadal then qualified for the Wimbledon semifinal but he had to pull out of the tournament due to a muscle tear in his abdomen.
The Spaniard recently returned to light training and he will be looking to give his best.
“Talent is something that I think people get a little bit confused about. For me, it’s not playing pretty or hitting the ball very hard. Some have the talent to hit hard, others to not miss any ball, some to make a great cut, and others to move very well. But in tennis, as in all sports, the ultimate goal is to win. So, for me, the summary is clear, the one who wins is the one with the most talent,” Nadal said while talking to Talento a Bordo.
On the other hand, Nadal also shed light on taking a coaching job after his retirement. Nadal already has his own academy in Mallorca and he has been doing a tremendous job in giving opportunities to young talent.
“Someday I’ll be an ex-elite sportsman,” he admitted. “But I’ll always be a sportsman because sport is my passion, and I’ll keep practising as long as my body lets me.
“I’ll always be involved in the [Rafa Nadal] Academy, which is a project we started a few years ago and that’s gathering more and more strength. I even hope to be able to spend more time on it than I currently do, since I still compete and travel around the world.
“At the Academy, there are all sorts of players and I hope that some future rising tennis star is already among them. “I’m not sure I’d be the best person to train a player. “For now, I’m not considering it, but as the saying goes: ‘Never say never’.”
Nadal will be seen in action in the US Open and he will be looking to clinch his 23rd Grand Slam title.
