Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has disclosed that he has fully recovered from the global pandemic, coronavirus.
The Spaniard was the first English Premier League coach to contract the virus and said he started feeling relieved three to four days after contracting coronavirus.
The 37-year old was tested positive on the 12th of March only a few days after the team had faced Olympiacos in the UEFA Europa League Round of 16-second leg clash at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal lost the 90th minutes game 1-0 before extra time ended 2-1 in favor of the Greek giants, and the Gunners bowed out of the competition, which they played in its final last season in Baku on away goals rule.
Arteta’s contraction came after reports confirmed that Olympiacos owner Evangelos Marinakis had tested positive for the virus on the 10th of March.
“It took me three or four days to start feeling better, with more energy, to leave the symptoms behind.” Arteta was quoted by the BBC.
The manager revealed that he now feels better and feels that he has recovered fully.
Arsenal players were to resume and report to training on Tuesday the 24th of March after their 14 days isolation has been completed due to Arteta’s diagnosis, but the initial schedule has been postponed as the spread of the virus worsens across Europe.
The club released a statement that with the current situation, it will be irresponsible as well as inappropriate to request that the players resume.
The situation affects Arsenal’s first team, women as well as youth and Academy players who have been advised to stay at home.
Arsenal was due to face Manchester City on the 11th of March in a rescheduled English Premier League fixture meant for the Etihad Stadium.
Due to Arteta testing positive, all Arsenal’s players had to go into quarantine, which games had to be suspended.
