Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has equalled Ali Daei’s record for most goals in Men’s football. Ronaldo scored a brace through penalties against France in his team’s last match of Group F. The second goal was Ronaldo’s 109th goal in his glorious career as he equalled the most goals record.
The match ended in a 2-2 draw as Portugal and France both qualified for the Round of 16. The defending champions will now face Belgium in the Round of 16. Furthermore, Ronaldo now has 14 goals in Euro Championships and he is the leading goal-scorer in the history of the tournament as well as in the ongoing Euro 2020 (5 Goals so far).
Ronaldo had earlier overtaken Michel Platini’s record of most goals in Euro Cup as the former Frenchman had scored nine goals in five matches for his national team in the tourney. Ronaldo surpassed Platini’s record in the opening fixture of the team against Hungary when he scored through a penalty.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo scored his maiden goal in European Championship against Greece back in 2004 as a 19-year old youngster. Since then Ronaldo has come a long way in his career and he is currently regarded as one of the best footballers to have played the game.
In fact, despite being 36-year old, Ronaldo is still at the top of fitness and he is fit as a fiddle. The talisman is consistently scoring goals for Portugal and his club Juventus and he is going to hold the key for the national team in the knockout stages of the tournament.
Ali Daei took to Instagram to congratulate Ronaldo on equalling the coveted record.
“Congratulations to @cristiano who is now one goal away from breaking the men’s international goal scoring record,” Daei posted on Instagram. “I am honoured that this remarkable achievement will belong to Ronaldo – great champion of football and caring humanist who inspires and impacts lives throughout the world.”
