    Eden Hazard Belgium Euro 2020-21

Hazard sweats on his fitness ahead of Euro 2020

    June 1, 2021

Eden Hazard hasn’t been able to replicate his Chelsea performances whilst wearing the Whites of Real Madrid. He was once regarded as a future Ballon d’Or contender, but has been nothing but a squad player at the Bernabeu.

However, like many players who have suffered the consequences of a big money move in the last couple of years, Eden Hazard turns into a different beast for his country. Eden Hazard is the second all-time top scorer for his country, which is a phenomenal stat for a winger who still has a few years in him.

His injuries at Real Madrid have been well documented. After playing just 16 times in his debut campaign, the former Chelsea star just featured in 14 matches this season which accounted for just over 500 minutes of game time. This is not what you expect from a 115-million-euro acquisition who was regularly playing over 2000 minutes at his former club.

Eden Hazard says that he is mentally fit for the Euros after a poor season with Real Madrid which ended in trophyless fashion, but he is still unsure on his fitness status for the first match of the campaign.

“It has been a complicated year but I hope to be ready for the first game. I have to take it day by day and see how it goes with the medical staff,” he said.

“I missed the last games of the season at Real Madrid, so I have had time to rest and so we’ll see how it goes.”

“We will see at training over the next days before the Euros. We have some time before our first match and I want to ready for that one,” he added.

Belgium, who are one of the favourites to go all the way have been really impressive over the last years and went on a perfect run in the qualifying stages. They kick off their campaign against Russia on June 12.

Belgium will also entertain Denmark and Finland in Group B, with the Three Lions expected to top the group comfortably.
