Reports: Germany boss Joachim Loew set to recall Thomas Muller for Euro 2021

    May 13, 2021

Germany head coach Joachim Loew looks all set to reverse Thomas Muller’s exile from the German squad as reports state that he has contacted the Bayern Munich forward to discuss the prospects of naming him in the squad for Euro 2021.

According to Tuesday’s Bild, Loew informed Muller in a telephonic conversation that he wants to recall the 31-year-old to the German squad for the Championships next month when it will be officially named on May 19.

Muller has been in outstanding form for Bayern Munich, who were named the Bundesliga champions on Saturday, this season. He is leading the assists tally in the league with a total of 17 assists to his name, and he has scored 10 goals on top of that as well.

Loew had told Muller, Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels in 2019 that they were no longer in his plans as he wanted to rebuild the team, after their disastrous performance in the 2018 World Cup — where they finished last in their group.

However, he has now reversed his decision as he didn’t get time to prepare new players due to the pandemic. This is where Muller’s current form and experience will come in handy.

Muller has been a vital cog of the German side ever since he made his debut in 2010. He has played over 100 games for them and was one of the main reasons behind their success in the 2014 World Cup.

Germany have been placed in quite a tough group in the Euros this time. They will face current World Champions France, European Champions Portugal and Hungary

Moreover, Loew has also decided to step down from his position after the tournament ends on July 11. He has been in charge of this team for 15 years.
