The football association has suspended Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli for one Premier League game for a social media post about coronavirus, which he made in February.
Dele Alli had made fun of an Asian man in a Snapchat video he uploaded about the outbreak, he also was slapped with a fine of £50,000, and he will also take an educational course.
Thus, the England international will miss the visit of Manchester United to the New White Hart Lane on 19 June.
In the video posted, Dele Alli was seen putting on a face mask in an airport lounge while also capturing the Asian man and an antiseptic handwash.
However, the player claimed he deleted the video before getting into his flight when he realized that it had the potential to cause controversy.
“In response to the FA decision, I would like to apologize again for any offense caused by my behavior. It was an extremely poorly judged joke about a virus that has now affected us more than we could ever have imagined.
I’m grateful that the FA has confirmed that my actions were not racist because I despise racism of any kind. We all need to be mindful of the words and actions we use and how they can be perceived by others.” he said in a statement quoted by BBC.
Meanwhile, one positive test has been recorded from the latest round of coronavirus testing done in the Premier League.
1,213 tests were conducted on the 8th and 9th of June, and a total of 14 positive cases have been recorded from 7,487 tests.
Furthermore, it has been confirmed that a minute silence will be held in the first game once the Premier League returns on 17 June for the victims who died during the pandemic.
The first two games, Aston Villa v Sheffield United and Manchester City v Arsenal, will have a minute silence each same as the first full round of games on the weekend.
