Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son have been in sensational scoring form in the last two seasons for Tottenham Hotspur and that has led one of their former strikers, Jermain Defoe, to term their partnership as the ‘best in the world’.
The England and South Korea captains have propelled Tottenham to the top of the Premier League table just 10 matches into the season, and they look well on their way to become one of the most prolific scoring pairs in the Premier League history.
The duo have scored 29 goals between themselves in the Premier League till now. Chelsea’s Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba hold the all-time record for 36 goals between themselves.
“With Kane and Son, what Mourinho has done has been incredible,’ Defoe said on the Mennie Talks Podcast.
“Those two are the best partnership in world football at the minute. The hardest thing that you can do at the top level is to be consistent, so for those two to show that consistency, for me is unbelievable.
“Son is dynamic, so he runs in behind. He gets the ball and he is direct, he beats people.”
Kane has registered a total of 13 goals and 11 assists in 16 games across all competitions this season whereas Son is only behind Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin in terms of goals scored in this Premier League season.
Tottenham were not in the best shape when Jose Mourinho took over as their manager towards the middle of the last season. They were ranked 14th in the Premier League at that point of time. Mourinho wasn’t coming to the side at his peak either, as he had some pretty mediocre years with Chelsea and Manchester United.
But Mourinho has completely turned around their fortunes since he took charge and Defoe believes that the Portuguese does deserve a lot of credit along with Son and Kane.
“I think it is understanding the players that he has got. Credit to Mourinho because there were a lot of people before he took the job that were thinking ‘no’.
“I believe that you should always appreciate greatness because he is a great manager. He is unbelievable.”
