Indications have shown that OGC Nice could sack Patrick Vieira after reviewing his position based on the club’s current form.
This is following their 3-1 defeat against Dijon last weekend in the French Ligue 1.
According to L’Équipe, the board of OGC Nice is now considering his future at the club. It appears to be the final straw for their patience as they wonder how his team could have lost to the bottom-of-the-table side. This is the fourth loss in a row for the world cup winner.
The 44-year-old was about to be sacked towards the end of the last season, but the league was suspended. His recent run of results has caused anger from the fans as well.
At a point, there was a plan to extend his stay beyond June 2021, but that appears to have changed due to the current shape of the team and the ambition of the new owners, INEOS.
The outfit might be trying to avoid paying compensation, making them leave the Frenchman in charge and allow him to run down his contract before thinking of the way forward.
Nice Director of Football, Julien Fournier, who went to watch Nice partner club, Racing Club Abidjan in the Ivory Coast in the first African Champions League game, is expected not to have an immediate debriefs with Vieiras straight after the game, as that is not his usual style.
The players were given a day off on Monday, and Fournier is expected to meet Vieira on Tuesday to discuss the way forward.
The meeting could be coming at a bad time for Vieira, who will be planning for the visit of Bayern Leverkusen on Thursday for the Europa League. But that won’t change a thing as Les Aiglons are already eliminated.
He is expected to still be in charge of the club’s match, but his future is hanging in the balance.
It has been observed that the club usually listens to criticism from outsiders to decide the fate of their coach. Another team problem is that the players appear to lack confidence, and the dressing room looked unsettled.
From the look of things, Vieira appears to be on borrowed times at the club.
