Karim Benzema continued his impressive form of late as he scored a brace and an assist as Real Madrid saw off a stubborn Real Mallorca 3-0 on Monday evening.
The French forward scored a hattrick in Real Madrid’s 3-1 win against PSG in the second leg round of sixteen clashes at the Bernabeu.
The win put the team through to the quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League, and Benzema continued his impressive form with an assist for Brazilian youngster Vinicius Junior, who opened the scoring early in the second after a goalless first half.
Real Mallorca was winless in their last four, and Vinicius Junior’s 55th-minute goal set the tone for their fifth consecutive loss in a row.
Karim Benzema made it 2-0 in the 77th from the penalty spot before wrapping it up five minutes later.
Real Madrid is now 10 points away from second-placed Sevilla, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Rayo Vallecano at the weekend.
However, Real Madrid will face a stern test against Barcelona in their next La Liga game when the El Clasico comes up next weekend.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side will be sweating over the fitness of some of the team’s key players who had a knock-on Monday night.
With six days to the El Clasico Real Madrid are unsure of the availability of French striker Karim Benzema who has now scored five goals in two games in all competitions Ferland Mendy and Rodrygo, who all went off in the 3-0 win.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday Manchester United will face Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 times between both teams.
Both sides played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg at the Wanda Metropolitano, and Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has said a victory will be achievable if players are in top form just like in the win against Spurs at the weekend.
“We want players and supporters to be on top forms, like Spurs, They can make it a very special experience for everybody. We have to create those moments.” Rangnick said.
