Paris Saint-Germain seem relentless in their pursuit of a midfielder this summer and their top target is Barcelona’s Gavi.
The Ligue 1 club have identified alternative as Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimarães. The Brazilian is having a good season again with the Magpies.
The Toon boss, Eddie Howe, had admitted that the club might not be able to resist a good offer for their prized asset, which would a8d their financial fair play.
Meanwhile, Gavi is a player PSG pursued last summer and continue pursuing.
The Barcelona midfielder remains sidelined with a cruciate ligament tear he suffered earlier this season. Despite this, PSG’s interest has not waned.
According to L’Équipe, last summer, the 19-year-old became PSG’s target for a conversation between Luís Campos and Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
With Gavi having a €1bn release clause on his current deal with the Catalan club, he’s not available in the transfer market.
However, with this development, PSG could return at the end of the season.
Barcelona are battling a huge debt that hinders them from signing top players except for Low fees and Bosman deals. They won’t reject a juicy offer for Gavi if that’s tabled.
Gavi’s release clause is believed to be the main issue. Since Kylian Mbappé’s expected departure to Real Madrid will not free up the funds to trigger it, PSG must convince Barcelona to sell.
Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez had in an interview in February that Gavi should stay, adding that he’ll be one of the club’s captains in the future.
Since Xavi will vacate the seat next summer, PSG are optimistic about convincing Gwbi to move to Parc de Princes.
Should Hansi Flick, who has been linked to the Barca seat, arrive, anything can happen between now and the summer.
With the look of things, PSG appears dogged in their pursuit, having held preliminary talks last summer between PSG and Gavi’s entourage, which has remained intact.
Should their relentless pursuit fail, they could go for Guimarães to bring more creativity to the squad.
