The English Premier League’s plans to resume the league, which has been on suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic, may prove futile, according to Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish.
“Project Restart”, which is the tag given to the plans to restart the Premier League soon, has been set rolling over the last couple of weeks, but despite several meetings, resumption is still in potentiality with nothing confirmed yet.
One of the major issues is venues to stage the games, while all clubs have stated their desire to play the remaining fixtures left, the decision to stage games on neutral grounds and behind closed doors hasn’t been well received.
This is even as three clubs have opposed the “project restart’s” plan to play games on a neutral ground while club Doctors have also raised concerns.
With the league clubs to meet on Monday, Steve Parish has stated that the wait for the top flight to return may be extended unless the staging of games is solved anytime soon, making the June deadline highly unlikely.
Speaking on BBC One’s Andrew Marr Show, Parish said that initial plans for league matches to be staged again from June might prove unfeasible.
“We would be derelict in our duty if we didn’t find a way to try and bring the game back, it may prove beyond us.” Steve Parish was quoted on Bbc.com
Meanwhile, Parish has stated that the Premier League can learn from the Blueprint of the German Bundesliga, which returns on May 16.
He also stated that the best way to go is to end the season competitively on the field of play, albeit some decisions are off the clubs and with government and authorities.
“Deciding it competitively would be best, obviously if we can play in our own stadiums that would be preferable for everybody, but for the moment that situation is with government and the authorities and not with us,” he said.
