Former Arsenal manager Unai Emery has effectively ruled out a return to the Premier League anytime soon after referred Villarreal as his home, putting an ending discussions about a possible move to Newcastle United.
Emery led Villarreal to the UEFA Europa League success last season against Manchester United also saw Sevilla to three back to back Europa League successes in the last decade.
The former Arsenal manager was heavily linked with Newcastle as some reports reported that the Spaniard could be unveiled by the Premier League club on Saturday.
However, the former PSG manager stated in a post on Twitter that he is 100% committed at the Yellow Submarines and also thanked the club owners for the support he has enjoyed at the club.
“I am grateful for the interest of a great club, but even more grateful to be here, No matter how much noise there was yesterday in another country, within the club there was transparency and loyalty with the Roig family and with my squad, and for me it is the most important thing. Villarreal is my home and I am 100% committed.” He said.
Newcastle United are without a manager since Steve Bruce left the position at the St James Park and Emery confirmed that he was contacted on Tuesday to fill the position.
Attention now shifts to Paulo Fonseca who left Roma and Eddie Howe who led Bournemouth to the Premier League seasons back.
Emery’s Villarreal are second in their UEFA Champions League group just behind Manchester United on goal difference with both teams on seven points after four games in the group stage.
The Yellow Submarines defeated Young boys 2-0 on Tuesday night with Etienne Capoue and Arnaut Danjuma on the scoresheet.
However, their La Liga standing leaves a lot to be desired as they sit in 13 with 12 points from 11 games.
Meanwhile, Karim Benzema scored a brace in Real Madrid’s 2-1 against Shakhtar Donetsk while ten-man Atletico Madrid lost to Liverpool.
